Supporting participants with complex health needs requires more than good intentions, it requires the right knowledge, practical skills and confidence.
Our High Intensity Support Skills training has been developed to help disability support workers understand the principles of safe care while working within their role and following participant-specific support plans.
For NDIS providers, investing in ongoing staff education also supports workforce capability and contributes to meeting the NDIS Practice Standards by demonstrating a commitment to staff training, professional development and safe service delivery. Well-trained staff are better equipped to provide high-quality, person-centred supports while organisations maintain evidence of ongoing learning as part of their broader compliance and audit processes.

Participants will develop an understanding of feeding tubes (PEG, PEJ, NG), feeding pumps, infection control, troubleshooting, and risk management.

The training covers the importance of blood glucose monitoring, insulin management, and dietary considerations in managing diabetes. Participants will also explore strategies for preventing diabetes-related emergencies, such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, and how to provide support to individuals managing the condition.

You’ll learn best-practice techniques for catheter hygiene and maintenance, recognising and responding to complications (such as infection or blockage), and providing safe, respectful, person-centred care.

Learn how to support participants with bowel care routines, including recognising signs of constipation, impaction, and other complications, as well as when to escalate care. The course focuses on infection control, dignity, privacy, and person-centred care, ensuring you can provide safe and respectful support at all times.

Develop the knowledge and practical skills to safely support NDIS participants with stoma care, including appliance management, skin care, infection prevention, and recognising complications.

Learn to recognise and respond to seizures safely, provide post-seizure care, follow individual seizure management plans, and administer emergency midazolam medication in accordance with participant-specific protocols.

Develop the knowledge and practical skills to safely support participants with dysphagia, including texture-modified diets, thickened fluids, safe feeding techniques, positioning, and choking risk management.

Non-accredited training is designed to provide education in specialised or emerging areas where there is no nationally recognised unit of competency or where professional development is more appropriate than a formal qualification.
Our High Intensity Support Skills workshops are examples of this type of training. They focus on developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to support participants with complex health needs in accordance with their individual support plans.
Participants receive a Statement of Participation as evidence of training and assessment. This can be used as evidence of professional development or for auditing purposes.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission does not prescribe that workers must complete nationally recognised qualifications for every High Intensity Support Skill.
Instead, the NDIS expects registered providers to ensure that workers:
have the appropriate knowledge and skills to perform the support safely
receive suitable training relevant to the participant's needs
are assessed as competent before providing participant-specific supports
work within the participant's support plan and the provider's policies and procedures.
Our workshops are designed to support providers in meeting these workforce capability expectations by delivering evidence-informed education and practical skill development. They can form part of an organisation's broader training and competency framework.
